After almost two years in the pipeline, Disney has announced the release date of its first streaming platform Disney+, becoming one of the last entertainment incumbents to join digital space.
Offering more than 500 movies and 7,500 TV shows, Disney+ will launch in the USA and Canada in November with a monthly pricing at $ 6.99 and annual subscription plan at $ 69.99.
Besides films and shows produced by Walt Disney Studios, productions of Walt Disney Studios’ subsidiaries Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar will also be available on the platform, making Disney+ one of the largest OTT platforms on digital market. With strong original content production capabilities and competences of Walt Disney Studios, Disney+ will contest current market position of leaders such as Netflix.
